Takchita

The takchita refers to a version of the Moroccan caftan traditionally made up of two pieces worn one on top of the other, but can have up to five. Takchita outfits are distinguished by the quality of the luxurious fabrics used in their manufacture, their bold and harmonious colors, as well as their sometimes dense embroidery. The takchita is magnified by belts of various original and richly worked shapes called mdamma and laaquad. The first layer is often simple and light (it is less worked than the second). The most worn takchitas are those with two layers. The second layer is much more worked, revealing the details and the very worked and refined ornament of the beads and hand-sewn patterns. The manufacture of a two-layer takchita by a single seamstress can take up to two months of work.
